"Peg Mirror" (2007) by Daniel Rozin
“I found this to be a very intriguing way in which natural materials are combined and used to create and completely no outcome. Maybe I could use it technique?”

Colour Mood Chart
“These two images are colour mood charts. It is considered that colours have a emotional feel toward them and that certain colour mean certain things. I find this useful as I am trying to create relaxing products I need to know what certain colours to use, and observing these charts and believe that is possible.”

DORIDE Lamp
Karim Rashid is a name in the designing world that has long evoked mixed reactions from both the critics and the casual observers alike- Just like the work of every famous artist does! The DORIDE Lamp though is a design that really has everyone excited for its unique blend of design and style principles. The DORIDE itself is inspired by nature and mimics the structure of a leaf floating away in the wind.
The understated classic that it is, the lamp uses articulated, hydro-formed, metal stem attached to a molded-steel base that houses the electronic ballast. The head of the lamp, where all its beauty lies with intricate vein-like pattern, can be rotated through an angle of 350 degrees and due to its design helps eliminate direct glare. Sleek, stylish and keeping in line with the current minimalist trend.
“I find the DORIDE Lamp to be very graceful, sleek and chic in the way it looks and feels. The way in which the lamp uses leaf veins as inspiration for is clever and elegant. I really do like design and hope to emulate its soft calming feel.”
Nature Sound 2
“Another piece of music which is suppose to relax you and relive stress, this involves the use of wind.”
Nature Sound 1
“After looking at number or products and concepts that contain music as a source of relaxation I decided to look at some natural sound that are said to calm the body. After listening to this i did feel a sense of tranquillity. So I will was to look in adding music to my future concepts.”
Eco-Friendly Leaf Lamp
Sky-scrapers, shopping malls, traffic lights, automobiles, pollution- the current outdoors are slowly losing the nature’s beauty to development and modernization and people are digging out ways to bring this very beauty closer to their lives, into their homes. The Leaf Lamp is just one among those designs inspired by the Mother Nature’s gardens.
"This is one example of nature inspired design that I have looked at to try and gain inspiration a insight into biomimcry.”
10 Buildings Inspired By The Natural World
http://www.fixr.com/blog/2009/11/08/10-buildings-inspired-by-the-natural-world/
“This is a link to some nature inspired architecture. I liked this page as it showed many different forms of nature and I could possibly use some of these form on a smaller scale to produce some new product ideas. “
Winter 1972 - Living room stories (poster)
We have seen quite a few 'Post It Notes' posts in the past, and what we have here is equally impressive: 'Winter 1972 - Living room stories (poster)'. Its by graphic designer Adrian Merz, teamwork with Cornelia Hess, which encases a living room and transforms it into a winter landscape using thousands of white Post It Notes. It's a beautiful concept which tries to bring the memories and experiences of winter 1972, and in our opinion they have beautifully succeed in doing so.
“Although this is not product design I still find it very inspiring. I use of everyday items to create a now scenario is inspirational.”
Tadpole lamps
Nature inspired designs can change the entire look of the interiors with their subtle influence. Lighting up your interiors with such nature inspired accents not only help you connect with nature but also add glamour to a dull nook or wall. Tadpole lamps, inspired by the cute wiggly creatures can be played around with to change the look of the place. All you have to do is turn the chandelier Tadpole Lamps into floor lamps or the other way around to give a different feel to your interiors. The lamps are perfect to spruce up and add elegance to your contemporary interiors.
“I agree with the opinion above that a natural looking product does change the dynamic of a room. The tadpole lamps are proof as they are very striking and do generally draw you eye. I do like the fact the design is not a identical to a tadpole but have subtle hint back to the inspiration.”
Grass Chair
The grass armchair is available from Purves & Purves, a furniture design shop. It’s a flatpack, do it yourself kit, consisting of a 14 piece corrugated cardboard frame and a package of grass seeds. It starts to grow after just 10 days.
" liked this idea of using the matrials and landscape to create a natural looking product. This idea also raised the topic in which people like use their gardens to relax."
METAPHYS garden "factory" planter
We designed planters to enjoy the growing process of plants; from sowing to making plants sprout and grow. Plant whose height is genetically constrained puts out buds in a shallow tray without soil, and grows in the dedicated planter that makes the plant look most beautiful. A portion of wide spread of prairie is brought into the room. You can combine or pile up the planters in two different sizes.
“The METAPHYS garden ‘factory’ planter give the user the opportunity to experience the relaxing hobby of gardening , gardening is a source of relaxation for many people which again has a strong link towards nature.”
Grape Vines Goes Green
That green bandwagon is speeding down the global highway at break neck speeds and corporations are rushing to hop on. That’s the good news… the other good news is that electronics giant Siemens is looking for ways to make bold and beautiful green statements with these cordless telephone designs. Siemens Home and Office Communication division commissioned design firm Formwelt with guidance from Hans-Henning Brabänder to dream up these ultimate green phones for the home or office. The “Gigaset Eco Visions” “Leaf” and “Solar” are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. Sun-light is used as a natural energy source for handsets. An eco-index provides the “nutritional facts” regarding the environmental-friendliness of each phone. This includes the percentage of organic materials and number of components used at disassembly, the energy consumption and emissions in use and production as well as the how recyclable each product is. So much more relevant info on all the ways this design is innovative below.
Designer: Formwelt Studio
Leaf has a unique natural design reminiscent of a leaf in spring. The eco plastics provide sensational haptics and substantial convenience. The invisible OLED display is embedded in a translucent lens encasement, giving the phone a futuristic touch.

“I find these phone designs extremely appalling and exciting, especially the leaf phone. They have a clean looking organic feel which makes you want to pick them up and just hold them which I hope to follow when designing my concepts; the question is why do these design make you feel this way?”
Living Moss Carpet
by Evelyn Lee
There’s nothing like the feeling of fresh cut grass under the toes, especially when stepping out of the shower. This Moss Carpet by Nguyen La Chanh brings the outside indoors in an unconventionally natural way by placing it underfoot. The lush green lawn thrives in humid environments, which makes your bathroom a perfect place to grow.
Chanh’s ingenious design is made from a decay-free foam called plastazote, and populated with three varieties of moss: ball, island, and forest. Maintenance required for this little patch of green is limited, as the moss thrives off of the humidity released from daily bathroom rituals. Who knew taking a shower could provide for such efficient multi-tasking, growing a little extra dose of green to start your morning or end your day.
“I really like this idea for not mimicking nature but actually adapting nature to create a new product. The only problem i have with this idea is that does the product need regular maintenance.”

Interactive Floor Projections New Water Effect
“Another technology based design that incorporates the use of nature. I like the idea but am finding it hard to see how the technology could be used within product design and stress relief.”
LED Wall
“This is the Cyber Concept Lighting Project in Hong Kong. I really like this idea as it not only looks intriguing but I also have user interaction. Although on this video the wall is only using colors there is a possibility to incorporate nature within the concept i.e. have love grass and when you walk past the wind blows through the grass.”
Plasma Lamp
“I don’t know what it is with plasma lamps but i find them to be very relaxing to watch. Not only do they give off a calming factor but they also have that sense of wonder where you want to touch and feel it.”
Lava Lamp - Mathmos Astro
“Laver lamps have been around for quite a long lime not but they are still considered to be a relaxing product, this is properly due to the organic way in which it moves with the combination of soft lights. The soft ‘Laver’ makes me believe that if am to create a product that reduces stress and other functions then I needs to flow freely and have a soft natural feel.”
Aquabatics - Bubble Tubes
“This is a further adaptation to the LED wall lights; instead of just having solid colours changing the Aquabatics have the sense of nature by adding water and a bubble affect.”
LED Wall Tube Lights
“Another video of how slow colour changing forms create a emotional design that can have a soothing affect and help observers relax.”
Mathias Gmachl design with Surelight
“I came across this design when looking though some videos on youtube. I don’t think it is suppose to look like nature but when I look at it have the thought of lighting without thunder and find watching the video hypnotic and calming.”
Color Changing LED Mood Lamp Ball
“Another product from Locomo, this is there colour changing mood ball. The use of the soft changing lights gives off a sense of peace. This product does raise another question; why are those certain colour chosen?”
Rotational Sensor Mood Light Radio
“This is the Locomo rotational sensor radio/moodlight. Light and sound combination is used again to create this product but what separates it from the others is the way it operates. I am interested in the fact the user has to interact with the product further then the usual button push.”
Laser pointer effects
“The use of lasers projected on the wall to create a natural feel of movement whch has a soothing affet.; maby the use of futre technology could be used to create a natural feel?”
That’s Not A Pretty Picture On The Wall - Jan König
“This is a concept for a area cleaner which not only purifies the air within a room but is also resembles a soothing view that exudes a therapeutic and relaxing environment. Although I feel this is too liberal in the use of nature I do like that fact it as two uses which I find a appealing thought. “
It’s All About Picturesque Music
If listening to music isn’t soothing enough, then how about teaming it with some nature-scape? The Sound Scape system does just that. The system beams out relaxing images (via the LED projector located in the circle) of clouds, water and other “nature-beauty” stuff. The size of the projected image can be customized via the sensor parameters that accompany the system. Basically it focuses on making you happy with visual treats, when you play some music.
Designers: Hyunsoo Choi, Hyori Kim & Gisung Han
“I admire the way in which this product works. It doesn’t have a natural looking form but just give off a sense of nature. This is another product that incorporated the combination of light and sound to gain a relaxing mood. Taking this in I am considering that using this combination of light and sound the right direction to take when creating my concepts.”
Floor Lamp Provides Controlled Lighting
“This post shows that using simple materials can also provide elegant natural looking products. This is a floor lamp designed be Alice Van that seems to mimic the form of a sea shell. I like that fact that the lamp doesn’t give off took much light, instead it more like a warm glow which on observation make you feel warm and relaxed.”
Boy Are You Stressed
“This post was obtained from a website Yanko Design. Yanko Design is a web magazine dedicated to introducing the best modern international design, covering from industrial design, concepts, technology, interior design, architecture, exhibition and fashion.
This concept is a watch which also reports biofeedback for several body functions, such as; body temperature and heart rate. But the function that I am most interested about is the fact that it gives off stress reading and the how that is displayed. The way it is displayed is similar to the stress line are shown on peoples foreheads, by having mimicking patterns displayed on the watch.”
Indigo Showers IS 803
“The Indigo shower is a Chromo therapy lighting for relaxation during steam sauna. I don’t really understand the need for this product but it again reiterates the fact that the soft lighting and water is commonly used to create a relaxing environment. With this in mind it does raise the questions; why are these used so regularly to achieve this goal?”
AlphaSphere
AlphaSphere by Sha
"My course mate (Adam Brown) brought this to my attention whilst discussing projects.
Whilst combining lighting, colour, sound, warmth and vibration the AlphaSphere creates a tranquil environment. By doing this the AlphaSphere acts on the user’s senses to make them feel more relaxed. I do like the way the AlphaSphere looks and feels with it organic forms and soft illuminations to create this environment."
Leaf House
“The Leaf House is the product of Undercurrent Architects. Although this is an example of architecture I still find process of which nurture has been used to design this house extremely elegant and calming. I believe even looking at leaf house gives off the sense of relaxation.”

d°light Bubbles
Diana Lin Design wants to give people not only physical experiences with products, but also emotional experiences. They produce innovative products that bring happiness and joy to people. Instead of creating products that just sit somewhere and just look good; Diana Lin want to create products that encourage interaction and inspire people to touch, feel and play with everyday objects.
“I find the d°light Bubbles to be extremely moving as the soft feel and looks of the product give off an impression of natural beauty. Not only do a like d°light Bubbles looks and feel but the idea of wanting the users to touch and interact with the product even more inspiring.”
